Simone Nowicki's Feature "Verortung unmöglich" on Straschek files wins the Claus-Dieter-Krohn Prize
Simone Nowicki's long involvement with the archive and the Mapping German Film Migration project is coming to an end as she begins a teaching position at the Institute for Film, Theater, Media and Cultural Studies at the JGU. To mark her farewell and new beginning, she has created a wonderful audio feature on the Günter Peter Straschek legacy for the "Tage des Exils" in Frankfurt:
13 years after the death of Günther Peter Straschek, the audio feature Verortung Unmöglich? narratively weaves Straschek's search for unknown film migrant data into a babble of voices about flight and migration experiences in order to make its contemporary historical relevance audible to a broad audience. Because in the manuals on archive theory, as well as websites such as the National Library’s, mostly the social significance and practice of the archive itself is discussed, but not the various states, motivations and interests of its human participants. Verortung Unmöglich? won the Claus-Dieter-Krohn Prize for the Mediation of Exile Research and Innovative Research Achievement.
